MWG Awarded Community Arts Fund Grant from the Brooklyn Arts Council!
MoveShop is delighted to announce that we are the receipiants of a Community Arts Fund Grant awarded by the Brooklyn Arts Council. The funds will go directly to producing "Racine D'or", our latest dance theater piece, which will be touring the South this Fall with Grammy-nominated Zydeco artist Cedric Watson et Bijou Creole!

This has been a huge year for MoveShop thanks to all of you! You got behind our vision, cheered at our performances, danced like crazy in our classes, supported our first film, and WE LOVE YOU FOR IT!
-Rehearsals began for Racine D'or, MoveShop's newest and largest production to date! It is a collaboration with Grammy-nominated zydeco musicians Cedric Watson et Bijou Creole. The company is headed to the Acadiana Center for the Arts in Lafayette, LA this spring to continue its creation, then it will premiere in New York in June 2013 and tour throughout the US in the fall of 2013!!
-The creation and unexpected huge success of our new education program, The MoveShop Dance Collective! Affordable high-quality classes taught by company members and master Graham instructors. Stay tuned to our classes page for details on our Winter Intensive in early February.
-Design, production and filming began for MoveShop's first ever short dance film!! Get ready for its release next year!
-Our staff and company members have blown up this year!
PERFORMERS: We welcome Lisa Woods as an official company member and Stephanie Jingle and Colin Summers as apprentice company members this year! In addition to performing, Colin will be composing original music and Stephanie will be choreographing in conjunction with Leslie Guyton for Racine D'or. We also welcome new dancers Nehemoyia Young and Dante Brown to the cast of Racine D'or.
STAFF: Our first Board President Allison Dencker - she is a Harvard Business School graduate whose professional work focuses on consulting non-profit organizations. Kirkwood Adams, Columbia University graduate and the Producer of our first production Black Feathers is back again better than ever as Executive Producer of Racine D'or. Amy Ashton, Artistic Associate at Roundabout Theatre Company has joined the team as Dramaturg and Assistant Producer of Racine D'or. The brilliant and hardworking Samantha Owens knocked the ball out of the park as our fall intern and subsequently was hired on just this month as our Company Manager. And Hollye Bynum who equally impressed us this fall with her vision and demand for excellence for our education program, is now our Director of Education and will be envisioning improvements to our program as well as the search for our own studio space.
-MoveShop created two new 20 minute works this year. Snow Globe premiered in April 2012 at Dixon Place and Will O' the Wisp, a collaboration led by Holus Bolus and choreographed by Rachel Garis premiered at Mono No Aware VI in December 2012.
-Artistic Director Leslie Guyton was awarded the Planet Connections Artist Grant to fund the creation of Racine D'or.
-We are ending the year with the wonderful news of a Grammy-nomination for themusic video for Houdini by Foster the People, which was choreographed by our Artistic Director Leslie Guyton.

Artistic Director Leslie Guyton receives APAP Exchange Grant!
The Arts Presenters Cultural Exchange Fund Grant has been awarded to our Artistic Director Leslie Guyton for a second time! She will be returning to Germany in the spring to continue cultivating relationships with international artists.

MoveShop is excited to be a part of "Will o' the Wisp", a multidisciplinary performance devised with Holus Bolus and Multivox, appearing at MONO NO AWARE IV, December 8th, at LightSpace Studios in Bushwick (1115 Flushing Avenue, off the Morgan L). The piece is based on the history of Centralia, Pennsylvania, a town ravaged by a subterranean coal mine fire since the 1960s. We're incorporating a capella vocals with ensemble movement and 16mm film projections! Doors open at 7pm, and performances begin at 8pm.
